American History

10:00 am | $159

This course will begin by briefly examining why the study of history is indispensable for Western civilization—or any civilization for that matter. In that vein, the class will investigate why citizenship is essential for any country. We will also briefly discuss the discovery of what we now call “America” by Christopher Columbus, why the indigenous people were called “Indians” by Columbus, and why the contemporary term “Native Americans” is inappropriate for those people.

From there, we will proceed to investigate the arrival of the Pilgrims on our shores in the early seventeenth century and why America has not always been a “melting pot,” as some assert. Our primary focus during the first semester will be placed on the shaping of this country, not neglecting to ask the question of why there was slavery in America. Time will be spent explaining the dynamics of the French and Indian War (or, the Seven Years War as it is sometimes called) and the colonists’ relationships to the fatherland and to Canada. We will also concentrate on the War of Independence, who our leaders were during that period, the major battles fought, why America is truly an exceptional country, and why our founding documents are unique in many ways.

Tuition for this course includes the textbook.

Youth Group

11:00 am | $0 | Age 12-19

Where do you turn when the world around you grows dark? This year our youth will be encouraged to turn to Christ by reminding us of the two purposes of the book of John—that we would believe in Jesus and find life in his name. Despite what our culture may argue, there is only one hope that is truly trustworthy, and that is our savior, Jesus Christ. So join us as we focus on the essential truths of our faith and the life found in our King.

Youth group is one of the best places on campus to find friends. Each class includes a group activity, a short video, and small group time with friends and a leader.

Youth Group 12·14 is specifically reserved for middle school students and young high schoolers. Youth 15+ for high schoolers targets more mature or complex topics that teens are facing today.

History of the Reformation

11:00 am | $157

The Protestant Reformation stands as a watershed for the Christian faith. Many Reformers, as well as their congregants, literally gave their lives for their beliefs. It is impossible to grasp the significance of Western civilization apart from the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century.

Therefore, this course is designed to provide the student with an initial grasp of and introduction to the most important ecclesiastical doctrines, ethical changes, and the primary controversies that fueled the Reformation.

We will address the question, "How does God want us to worship him?" We will also discuss how and why the Reformation laid a solid foundation for Christianity and what lessons the contemporary church can learn from it. Students will be encouraged to continue into the second semester by signing up for The History of the Reformation 102, which will examine Reformation documents, confessions, and catechisms in more detail.

Tuition includes the textbook. Please inquire about the full class description.

Robotics Club

2:30-4:30 pm | $189

Today's world leverages robots in almost every aspect of our lives. Everyone is constantly surrounded by robots, from our cars to our coffee makers. Furthermore, manufacturing and engineering firms are using ever-increasing numbers of robots to design and produce nearly everything we find in our world, from building high-end military hardware to preparing food in our grocery stores. These robots fill roles that used to be filled by extremely highly trained humans. While this enables the mass production of certain products that could only be produced in small numbers by highly trained individuals only a few years ago, this also presents a significant challenge for young people. Specifically, it is easy to learn how to use the robots, but it is hard to learn what makes the robots function. In the United States, fewer and fewer young people each year enter the technical and engineering field, which means that there are fewer and fewer individuals who can imagine, design, engineer, and program these robots. This course is designed to provide foundational knowledge in robotics using the VEX IQ system. The course is designed for ages 12-18; as such, some material may be very challenging for the younger members of the class, while some will be simple for the older members. However, successful completion of the course will give each student a foundation strong enough to continue their education in the field. The objective for the course is that each student will be able to imagine, design, engineer, and build a robot that will solve a problem in your household, so please begin considering what problems you might have around the house that they could solve!

Tuition includes access to the class robotics equipment and general class supplies.
