Sensory and ME Program

All Ages | Open 9:00am-2:30 pm

The purpose of this program is to provide support for the learner by offering an alternative space to continue learning at the pace the student is most comfortable with until the student is able to return to mainstream classroom programming with peers.

Learn

We strive to provide an inclusive learning environment for students of all abilities and special needs. We believe that children are created uniquely by God with a specific purpose, and we aim to provide educational outlets for them to discover their unique skill sets through hands-on learning!

Engage

A sensory room is a controlled and intentionally created space that provides multi-sensory resources to support a student’s sensory needs to enable them to engage in learning.

Students

While our sensory room is most commonly used by students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorder, all students are welcome to utilize this service any time they feel they need it. The area targets students who may need a little extra attention or assistance during times of over-stimulation. Activities will also be provided in the sensory room for students in need of a small class setting until they can return to mainstream classroom programming.

This room is also available for students with unique medical conditions who may need a break from sitting in a traditional classroom setting. The sensory room provides a space to stretch out and participate in physical movement as needed.

Activities

Sensory experiences will be geared toward the student’s needs. Sensory activities can be designed to help the student be alert and attentive or help the student become calm and relaxed. Examples include:

  • Exercise Bounce Ball Time (Alerting)

  • Art (Calming)

  • Music (Alerting or Calming)

  • Light and Dance Activities (Alert or Calming)

  • Bubble Deep Breathing (Calming)

  • Tactile activities (Calming)

  • Nature Play (Calming)

  • Sensory Swing (Alert or Calming)

As an added effort to help students continue to attend their regularly scheduled classes, sensory bags filled with items to appropriately focus and comfort students while they are feeling overwhelmed are provided to each classroom every week.
