Abide and Belong

Rooted in Christ, Embraced by Community

Inspired by Isaiah 64:8: “But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

This verse beautifully encapsulates our belief that God uniquely crafted every learner, each with distinct strengths and challenges. Our program is dedicated to honoring this divine craftsmanship, guiding students through personalized learning paths that foster growth, resilience, and independence.

LTL aims to support each learner by providing individualized strategies, flexible environments, and one-on-one assistance. Many students can remain in the mainstream classroom full-time with the support of a 1:1 aide, while others begin with a combination of sensory support and targeted interventions. Our approach is designed to gradually build confidence, reduce dependence on support spaces and aides, and foster greater independence in the classroom over time.

Learn

Abide and Belong is a comprehensive support initiative based on our belief that children are created uniquely by God with a specific purpose. We aim to provide educational outlets for them to discover their unique skill sets through hands-on learning!

Engage

To support our learners' diverse needs, we incorporate a variety of activities and techniques:

  • Sensory Integration: Utilizing tools like balance balls and tactile objects to enhance focus and self-regulation.

  • Mindfulness Practices: Including deep-breathing exercises and calming routines to promote emotional well-being.

  • Social Skills Development: Structured interactions that build communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Academic Support: Customized instruction that aligns with each student's learning style and pace.

These strategies are thoughtfully selected to ensure a holistic approach to each student's growth.

Students

Personalized Learning Plans: Tailored approaches that align with each student's needs and goals.

  • Flexible Learning Spaces: Including a sensory room, outdoor spaces, and mainstream classrooms, ensuring comfort and optimal learning conditions.

  • One-on-One Support: Dedicated aides who provide consistent guidance, facilitating both academic and personal development.

Our ultimate aim is to nurture students towards greater autonomy, enabling them to thrive within a wide variety of educational settings.

Sensory

Sensory experiences will be geared toward the student’s needs. Sensory activities can be designed to help the student be alert and attentive or help the student become calm and relaxed. Examples include:

  • Exercise Bounce Ball Time (Alerting)

  • Art (Calming)

  • Music (Alerting or Calming)

  • Light and Dance Activities (Alert or Calming)

  • Bubble Deep Breathing (Calming)

  • Tactile activities (Calming)

As an added effort to help students continue to attend their regularly scheduled classes, sensory bags filled with items to appropriately focus and comfort students while they are feeling overwhelmed are provided to each classroom every week.
